Geranium and mandarin bath salts
You will need
• Glass jar with tight-fitting lid
• 250g (9oz) Epsom salts
• 250g (9oz) bicarbonate of soda
• 4 drops of mandarin essential oil
• 4 drops of geranium essential oil
• Orange food colouring
• 2 tbsp (30ml) of liquid glycerine

Getting to know essential oils
• Geranium oil has a fresh, sweet, flowery scent that blends well with other floral oils. However, it is not advisable to use it in the early stages of pregnancy.

• Fruity mandarin oil is gentle but invigorating, and is known to be particularly good for oily skin.

• Roman chamomile, distilled from daisy-like flowers, is another gentle oil. It is soothing and good for skincare.

• One of the most versatile essential oils, lavender can be blended successfully with many other oils. It has calming and antiseptic properties.

Refreshing and uplifting, these scented bath salts contain beneficial essential oils – so why not pamper yourself?

1 Preparing the jar
Wash a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid and dry thoroughly, as any moisture left in it will cause the bath salts to harden.

2 Mixing dry ingredients
Weigh out the Epsom salts and bicarbonate of soda, spoon them into the jar and mix well together.

3 Adding essential oils
Add the mandarin and geranium essential oils to the mixture in the jar a drop at a time. Shake the jar to combine the ingredients. Add a few drops of orange food colouring.

4 Adding the final ingredient
Add the liquid glycerine to the mixture and shake the jar again to ensure that the bath salts are thoroughly mixed. To scent your bath water, add 4–6 tablespoons of the bath salts and allow them to dissolve.

Variations...
For bath salts with a more relaxing scent, replace the mandarin and geranium oils with Roman chamomile and lavender oils, leave out the food colouring and tuck sprigs of lavender against the sides of the jar.
